i'm feeling rather bored...

Knit And Crochet Today

Okay, so I decided to frog the blanket once again because it just looked too horrible. I mean, sure Billie won't mind it, but I want to be able to show others and actually be somewhat proud of it. I know it's not gonna be perfect, but I want it to at least be decent. So, I frogged it further than I had the first time, to the beginning of a stripe, and it worked much easier. Before I wasn't sure which row I was on, if I should knit or purl or how many rows to keep doing. So, now it looks much better. Still a little messy, but much better.

I have my DVR set up to record Knitty Gritty, Uncommon Threads, and Knit And Crochet Today. Knit & Crochet Today is my favorite one so far. It seems most helpful for beginners. Uncommon Threads hasn't talked about knitting since I DVRed it. They do make some cool things though. I've only seen one episode of Knitty Gritty, and it was good, but nothing I'd want to make.
So, I messed up on Billie's blanket and have since started over on it. Then I messed up some more, but I didn't feel like restarting it, so I frogged it and attempted to fix it that way. Well, it didn't turn out as planned...left me with holes and just some weird stuff...I dunno. It's not that big of a deal though, it's my first project and it's for my cat. And like my dad said, he's not going to criticize me if it's not perfect, lol.
But yeah, I've decided to try to teach myself some new knitting techniques. Last night I was trying to do increases, but was too tired so I just gave up for the night. I'm going to try some more today.

I purchased Stitch'n Bitch and it's a great book! Now I can return it to the library. Also I borrowed a book from the library, A History Of Hand Knitting by Richard Rutt. I couldn't even begin to read it though. It's very dry and has words I do not know. Normally I could just look them up in the dictionary and continue on, but in this book there's so many, so I just gave up. I don't want to be sitting there looking up every third word, it would take the pleasure out of reading. I am interested in learning the history of knitting though. Does anyone have any book suggestions that are actually good reads?

First Project: Billie's Blanket WIP

Sorry, I've been kinda MIA for a week or so. I just haven't been on the computer much lately. My dad became addicted to this one game, Jewel Quest, so he uses it most of the time, haha.

I have been getting on Ravelry though. My username on there is autumnfallsdown, so go add me! =)

I've been working on a few things. My current WIP is a blanket for my cat, Billie. Here's a picture of it:

That's what I got so far. It's my first project and I'm proud of it! I did mess up a little bit though. I figure it's okay because Billie won't care, lol.
So, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I wasn't moving the yarn to the front of the work. So, yeah now I figured that out =)

I was playing around earlier with knitting two colors together and it was kinda fun. Right now I'm just practicing stockinette stitch. That's what I need for Billie's blanket, so that's what I'll be practicing for now. I don't know when I'm going to the yarn shop, probably Thursday because Dani is going to come with me. She won't be able to come along till Thursday.d

purl stitch...increasing?

So, I taught myself how to do the purl stitch yesterday. It was easier, probably because I know how to do the other things properly now. I keep increasing when I knit, yesterday May (the woman who runs the LYS I go to) showed me what I was doing wrong, but that was with the knit stitch. So, now I can do that, but when I do the purl stitch I keep increasing. My knitting goes diagonal, haha. I start with 10 stitches and end up with 16, haha. At least when I need to increase I'll know what to do!

So, after teaching myself the purl stitch, I worked on stockinette stitch. It was really fun and actually turned out nice except for the whole diagonal side, haha. I guess I'll just have to keep practicing! Not like I mind sitting there knitting, haha =) I totally agree with what others have said, it is addicting! After I figure out how to stop increasing, I want to start on Billie's blanket! I told May that I'd be back soon to get the yarn for it. I'm so happy I found that yarn shop. She is so helpful and they have a good selection of yarn and whatnot. My best friend, Dani, is also trying to learn how to knit, so I told her about it =) She goes to school a block down from it, so that'll be easy for her to do.

problem solved!

So, I went to Tucker Yarns today. I was going to buy new needles, because I heard that if I use bigger needles that might help with the tightness. Well, I took my current needles and yarn in. I told her what was wrong, and went to look at the needles. She told me to show her what I do. So, it turns out that I was just moving the yarn the wrong way. I didn't even need new needles. And my hands aren't as tired as when I was doing it wrong. So, I was actually knitting! I'm so happy.

figured it out

So, thanks to a member of knitting , I figured out what I was doing wrong! I was missing a step when I was casting on. I went over to knittinghelp.com and watched a video of the cast on and realized it right away. So, I knit a few rows last night and they look much better than the ones I posted. Not perfect, but that's to be expected I suppose, haha =)

So, I have another problem. My stitches are way too tight. I looked up information last night about it and I'm still confused =\  I guess I just have to keep practicing and one day I'll get it right.

Now that I figured out what I was doing wrong, I'm not sure if I want to go to the class. Ehh I don't know I might wait. There's two yarn shops opening up closer to me. One opens pretty soon, April 18th, and one opens in June. The one is very close, the other is kinda close. So, I'm excited about that =) I'm thinking about checking out the one that opens up the 18th. But, I can't remember which one that was, haha. I'll have to look online again.

trouble with the knit stitch

Okay, so I posted this on knitting, but decided I'd post it on here also.

I'm having trouble with the knit stitch. I know what to do, I just can't figure out how to do it right.

So, I just want some advice. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to take that knitting class, because I don't want to drive to Nazareth. It's not far from me, but I've never been there at all. But, I do want to learn, so I guess I'll just have to do it, haha. I went to my LYS and they offer lessons but only like...if you're working on a project and you're having troubles with something, she'll show you what you're doing wrong and how to do it. So, I guess I have to drive up to Nazareth, haha. I did buy some yarn though. Also some other little things I might need according to the book I bought. It's always nice to support a small business.

First Entry

So, I've decided to keep a knitting journal seperate from my personal journal, so I don't bore them all with everything...haha.

I decided to learn how to knit because I just need a hobby and I always thought knitting looked fun. So, I went to A.C. Moore and bought some yarn, knitting needles and a book for beginners.

So, when I went home I sat down and got to it. I opened up the book, read it, started to attempt to knit. Some things were just too hard to figure out from the book, so I went online to see YouTube videos. They made things a bit easier, but it was still tough.

So I decided to take a class. I went to Joann's to ask about their classes. The store closest to me doesn't offer classes. The closest store that offers classes is about an hour away, which is just ridiculous. I was very frustrated.

Then, I looked online and found a local yarn shop that offers knitting classes for beginners. Kraemer Yarns. They have a few classes a week and they're only $5 compared to Joann's $35.

So, that's where I am now =)

This is what I want to do for my first project:
